Discussion Held on the Rights to Development of Persons with Intellectual and Psychosocial Disabilities
According to the National Statistics Office, as of the end
of 2024, Mongolia has 107,900 persons with disabilities, of whom 19.7 percent
(21,200 individuals) have intellectual and psychosocial disabilities.
At the initiative of Member of Parliament Kh. Baasanjargal,
the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Protection, with support from the
Hanns Seidel Foundation, organized a discussion under the theme “The Right to
Development of Persons with Intellectual and Psychosocial Disabilities.”
The discussion aimed to identify key issues that require
attention across sectors to ensure the rights of persons with intellectual and
psychosocial disabilities, improve intersectoral coordination, and address
pressing challenges at the national level. As part of this initiative, a series
of discussions has been organized across sectors by the MP’s office.
In February 2026, a joint discussion with the National Human
Rights Commission was held on “A Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue on the Rights of
Persons with Intellectual and Psychosocial Disabilities,” followed by a March
session in collaboration with the Mongolian Bar Association on “Enhancing the
Role of Legal Professionals in Protecting the Rights of Persons with
Intellectual and Psychosocial Disabilities.”
During the event, the Ministry of
Family, Labour and Social Protection presented information on how the rights of
persons with intellectual and psychosocial disabilities are reflected in
policies and programs, as well as on planned measures, child development
support, services for parents and caregivers, and the implementation of
rights-based approaches.
More than 60 representatives from 15 organizations participated in the discussion.
