Comprehensive Occupational Safety and Health Prevention Campaign 2026 Launched
Mongolia has observed April as “Occupational Safety and
Health Month” since 2012, organizing a wide range of activities aimed at
preventing industrial accidents and occupational diseases, protecting workers’
health, and promoting a culture of workplace safety. The opening of this year’s
campaign took place on April 7, 2026, in Sukhbaatar District.
In 2026, the initiative has been expanded into a nationwide
“Comprehensive Occupational Safety and Health Prevention Campaign,” which will
cover all 21 aimags, six districts, and more than 40 soums.
As part of the campaign, training on occupational safety and
health will be provided to employers, employees, and self-employed individuals.
Activities will also include workplace risk assessments, evaluations of working
conditions, and employee health screenings. In addition, participants will
receive information and advice on social insurance, labour relations, and
employment.
According to recent statistics, occupational disease cases
increased by 52 last year, with 2,046 individuals currently registered under
the supervision of the National Centre for Occupational Diseases. A total of
746 industrial accidents and acute poisoning cases were recorded, including 73
fatalities. The fatality rate reached 9.7 per 100,000 workers the highest level
in the past six years.
These figures indicate that industrial accidents and acute
poisoning cases are not declining but are instead on the rise, underscoring the
urgent need to strengthen preventive measures in occupational safety and
health.
The Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Protection is
implementing its 2025–2028 plan to reform the occupational safety and health
system. This includes updating legal frameworks and standards, strengthening
the national OSH system, improving workplace safety and hygiene requirements,
enhancing the capacity of specialized hospitals for occupational diseases, and
expanding the quality and accessibility of occupational health services. The
plan also includes the establishment of a new occupational hygiene reference
laboratory, intensified preventive measures for workers in hazardous
conditions, and the introduction of a digital system for OSH training and
information.
All stakeholders are encouraged to work together to foster a
positive culture of occupational safety and health.
