Revised Draft Law on Occupational Safety and Health Presented for Discussion
The Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Protection has
developed a revised draft of the Law on Occupational Safety and Health in
collaboration with the International Labour Organization, social partners, and
academic researchers. The draft law was presented on February 12, 2026 to
representatives from government and non-government organizations, businesses,
professional associations, and the academic community, and feedback was
gathered.
Since the adoption of the original Law on Occupational
Safety and Health in 2008, a legal framework for the sector has been
established, leading to tangible progress in protecting the health and safety
of workers and in preventing occupational accidents and work-related diseases.
However, over the past 18 years, significant changes have
taken place in Mongolia’s socio-economic landscape, industrial sectors, and
labour market. As a result, there is a growing need to update the legal
framework in line with international trends and best practices.
The revised draft law introduces new structural and systemic
regulations aimed at addressing key national challenges in ensuring
occupational safety and health, preventing industrial accidents, and reducing
work-related illnesses.
Once adopted, the law is expected to clearly define the
rights and responsibilities of employers and insured workers, while creating
conditions to strengthen preventive measures and improve access to occupational
health services.
