Long-Term Care System for Older Persons to Be Established
The Asian
Development Bank (ADB), in partnership with the Government of Mongolia, is set
to launch a technical assistance project and a grant project titled “Developing the
Care and Support System for Older Persons.”
As part of the project, a consultation meeting was held to present
international practices and principles related to long-term care financing,
policies, and service delivery for older adults.
As of 2024, Mongolia’s average life expectancy has reached 71.8 years,
an increase of 8.6 years compared to 2000. With the steady aging of
the population, there is an increasing need to align public policies and social
services with age-responsive planning.
Within the framework of the ADB project, Mongolia will develop
the foundation for a long-term care system for older persons. This will include
conducting research, creating a roadmap, improving the legal and policy
environment, optimizing financing mechanisms, equipping seven urban and
rural centres, and facilitating capacity building and knowledge
exchange through international best practices.
Participants in the consultation included representatives from
the Ministry of Family Labour and Social
Protection and its affiliated agencies, ADB project specialists, international
and national consultants, Member of Parliament D. Enkhtuya,
advisors from the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Social Policy, Education,
Culture and Science, as well as representatives from relevant ministries, the
Federation of Older Persons, the Gerontology Centre, research institutions,
care homes, and service providers.
