Over 3,900 Mongolian citizens are working in Japan as technical interns and skilled workers

Mr. T. Aubakir met with a delegation led by Mr. Keito Ito, Head of the Economic division of Nakashibetsu City, Japan
on July 29, 2025.
During the meeting Nakashibetsu City
representatives expressed their interest in cooperating to support Mongolian
citizens working and studying in sector such as agriculture, construction, information
technology, and caregiving in Japan, and later applying their acquired skills
and qualifications upon returning to Mongolia. Minister Mr. Aubakir welcomed their
proposal and noted that it is highly important for Mongolian youth to work in
Japan’s agricultural sector, where they can gain hands-on experience with
advanced technologies and develop a strong work ethic and discipline.
Nakashibetsu City’s economy is primarily based
on livestock and dairy production, and it is known as a national leader in
Japan for its technological advancement, high milk quality, and output.
Mongolia and Japan have been cooperating
under several frameworks, including:

The
Memorandum of Cooperation on the Technical Intern Training Program signed in
2017, and
·
The
Memorandum on the Basic Framework for proper operation of Specified Skilled
Workers Program signed in 2019.
These agreements have facilitated the exchange of technical interns and skilled workers, promoting broader international cooperation.
As noted by Mr. Keita Ito, there are
currently 19 Mongolian citizens working in Nakashibetsu city.
