Demand for Labour in High-Risk Sectors Rises as Economic Activity Expands
The
Delegation of the European Union to Mongolia has partnered with the Ministry of
Family, Labour and Social Protection to support reforms in the occupational safety and
health sector by launching a new project:
“Strengthening the Institutional
Capacity of the Occupational Safety and health center.”
The project was officially launched
on June 24, 2025. With opening remarks delivered by Ms. L. Munkhzul, State
Secretary of the Ministry. The initiative is being implemented from May 2025 to
May 2026, with financial and technical support from the EU’s SociEUX Plus
Programme, which focuses on social protection, labour, and employment
development.
In recent years, Mongolia has seen
a twofold increase in workplace accidents and a 30% rise in cases of
occupational diseases. Experts attribute
this in part to improved reporting and detection. However, rising economic
activity has also led to increased labour demand in high-risk industries,
highlighting the urgent need for stronger OSH system.
The Government of Mongolia’s
2024-2028 Action Plan identifies OSH as priority aiming to enhance workplace
safety systems and reduce occupational accidents and diseases. In line with
this policy, the Ministry has adopted and begun implementing the “Occupational
Safety and Health System Reform Plan for 2025-2028” under a ministerial order.
