Progress Made Against Child Labour, but More Action Needed
The international Labour
Organization (ILO), in collaboration with its social partners, observes World
Day Against Child Labour each year on June 12. This year’s theme is: “Let’s
intensity efforts- progress has been made, but we must push further to
eliminate child labour”.
The ILO is calling on all member
states to ratify Convention No. 138 on the Minimum Age for Employment and to
accelerate the implementation of Convention No.182 on the Worst Forms of Child
Labour.
Mongolia has incorporated the
fundamental principles of these conventions into its Labour Law and is working
actively to implement them.
As of today, 38 child rights
inspectors are working across the country, with plans to increase this number
to 92 by the next yearint
According to the National Statistics Office of Mongolia, more than 150,000 children are currently engaged in labour, of which around 58,000 are working in hazardous or intolerable conditions.
