Family, Labour and Social Protection sector Workers’ Day
Each
year, on the third Saturday of May, Mongolia observes Family, Labour and Social
Protection Sector Workers’ Day. Currently, approximately 5,000 civil servants
and public service employees are working in this sector across the country.
The knowledge, skills, initiative,
and dedication of these public servants are vital to effectively implementing
the state policies and strategic objectives of family, labour, and social
protection.
Although the roots of the Family,
Labour and Social Protection sector trace back to the 1930s, its foundation as
an independent sector was laid in 1959. On July 22, 1931, the Government of the
Mongolian People’s Republic (MPR) established the "Central Command for
Labor Protection" under Government Resolution No. 4, though it was later
dissolved.
By Resolution No. 94 of the
Presidium of the People’s Great Khural of the Mongolian People’s Republic,
dated November 24, 1944, the “Labour Affairs Department” was established under
the Council of Ministers. Although this marked the beginning of dedicated
labour-related offices, it functioned as an auxiliary unit within the Council.
Later, by Joint Resolution No.
199/189 of the Council of Ministers and the Central Committee of the Mongolian People’s
Republic, dated May 20, 1959, the “Labour and Wages Bureau” was established
under the Council of Ministers. This became the first independent central
administrative body responsible for labour affairs. As of 2025, 66 years have
passed since its establishment.
