Today Marks a Day of Reflection and Action for People with Disabilities
Since 1981, the United
Nations has designated December
3rd as the “International
Day of Persons with Disabilities” to raise awareness and
promote the rights of individuals with disabilities. This year, the theme is “Increase the Leadership of Persons with Disabilities
for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future.”
The day is not just a
celebration or slogan, but a time to evaluate the progress made for people with
disabilities, define future policies, and amplify their voices in the fight for
their rights.
Efforts to improve the
rights and social inclusion of people with disabilities include the opening
of Disability Development Centers in
six provinces, modeled on international standards, providing local access to
comprehensive services.
In terms of legal reforms, draft laws on the
rights of people with disabilities, accessibility, sign language, independent
living, and rehabilitation services are being developed.
Starting in 2025, the
government will increase the care
allowance for children with severe disabilities by 36%. Additionally, the budget
includes 11.7 billion MNT for
new services, such as discounts on
diapers and including children who require long-term care in
support programs.
Moving forward, the
government urges individuals, public institutions, and private sectors to
collaborate and ensure that the rights of people with disabilities are
protected, working together to create an inclusive and equitable society.
