Focusing Policies on Making Every Person with Disabilities a Producer
Countries around the world
are celebrating the International
Day of Persons with Disabilities this year under the theme “Developing the Leadership of Persons with
Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future.”
To discuss the development
of people with disabilities, their participation in society and the economy,
and other pressing issues, Mongolia is
hosting a national forum titled “Development
and Participation of Persons with Disabilities” under the auspices
of the President of Mongolia.
In his opening
speech, President H.E. Mr. Ukhnaa
Khurelsukh expressed his full support for policies, decisions, and
actions aimed at assisting people with disabilities.
Minister
for Family, Labour, and Social Protection, Mr. L. Enkh-Amgalan, delivered the keynote
speech on “State Policy,
Achievements, and Challenges in Ensuring the Development and Participation of
People with Disabilities.”
Currently, 3.2% of Mongolia’s population,
over 111,000 people, live
with disabilities. Among them, 93,000
(84%) are of working age, but only 15,000 are employed, indicating a significant gap in
employment for people with disabilities.
Therefore, the government
is focusing its policies and actions on ensuring that every person with a
disability becomes a producer and contributor to the economy. The government
also plans to increase funding and develop new work and employment services
tailored to the needs of the elderly and people with disabilities.
At today’s forum, discussions will cover the following topics:
•
“State Policies, Achievements, and
Challenges in Ensuring the Development and Participation of Persons with
Disabilities”
•
“Legal Reforms”
•
“The Role and Responsibility of Civil
Society Organizations in Ensuring Social Participation”
•
“The Role of Persons with Disabilities
in Sustainable Development – Support and Cooperation with International Organizations”
