National Council for Children Enhances Child Protection in Sports Sector

On 29 May, 2024, representatives from the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, alongside members of the National Council for Children, convened at the State Committee for Physical Education and Sports to advance the implementation of the revised Law on Child Protection. This meeting aimed to align sports sector practices with the newly approved guidelines, ensuring the protection of children's rights within this field.

The meeting focused on enhancing the coordination of regulatory frameworks and accelerating the enforcement of child protection laws. This effort follows the approval of the Child Protection Act by Parliament on January 17 of this year, highlighting the government's commitment to safeguarding children in various sectors, including sports.

Key recommendations from the National Council for Children included:

  • Work-Life Balance: Ensuring that employees in the sports sector can maintain a healthy work-life balance, which indirectly supports a safer and more attentive environment for children.
  • Safety during Competitions: Prioritizing the safety of children during sporting events, with stringent measures to protect them from potential harm.
  • Transportation: Addressing and improving the transportation logistics for children participating in sports competitions to ensure their safety and comfort.
  • Monitoring Food and Accommodation: Collaborating with children's organizations to oversee and rectify any violations of children's rights related to food and accommodation during sports events.
