Implementing a Family-Centered Child Protection Policy
The National Council
for Children held its first meeting of 2025 to discuss the ongoing
implementation of the revised Child Protection Law, which came into effect on
September 1, 2024. This law is designed to strengthen child protection measures
nationwide. In the upcoming year, efforts will focus on enhancing the law’s
implementation, particularly at the local level, to ensure comprehensive
protection for children.
As of 2025, Mongolia
has 983,000 households, with a child population of 1.3 million, including
13,200 children living in vulnerable conditions. Encouragingly, calls to the
Children’s Helpline (108) have decreased by 8.3%.
A key priority will
be the successful enforcement of the Child Protection Law, with a strong
emphasis on developing policies tailored to the diverse needs of various
population groups. Previously, the lack of a unified policy framework hindered
significant support for families. To address this, a family-based child
protection policy is being integrated into long-term strategic documents, and a
draft Law on Family Support is currently under development.
The revised law will
improve childcare, enhance benefits and protections, support stability, and
foster population growth. Additionally, comprehensive family development
service centers will be established in all provinces and districts, and social
services that utilize artificial intelligence and digital technologies will be
introduced.
