Funding for Senior Citizen Programs Increased Fivefold

As of January 1, 2025, the revised Law on Senior Citizens has officially come into effect. In support of its implementation, the budget allocated for senior citizen programs and initiatives has been increased fivefold compared to the previous year.

To enhance public awareness and ensure effective enforcement of the law, the Minister of Family, Labour and Social Protection, Mr. L. Enkh-Amgalan, has signed a cooperation agreement with the Mongolian Association of Senior Citizens for 2025.

This partnership aims to promote the rights and well-being of senior citizens while strengthening their access to essential services.

The revised law introduces key provisions to expand services and financial support for seniors, including measures to promote employment opportunities. Specifically, businesses with 50 or more employees are now required to hire at least 2% senior staff members.

Additionally, any unauthorized use of pensions and allowances, their use as collateral for loans, or the misappropriation of senior citizens' assets will be subject to criminal and administrative liability under amendments to the Criminal Code and the Law on Violations.

Furthermore, it has been legislated that up to 3% of the total salary fund of public institutions must be allocated annually to the Senior Citizens' Fund.
