Training Session Organized to Ensure Implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) Across All Sectors
A training session was
held in collaboration with UNESCO to raise awareness and ensure the effective
implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities
(CRPD) across all sectors in Mongolia. The session addressed issues highlighted
in the recommendations provided by the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons
with Disabilities to the Government of Mongolia, and it was attended by
representatives from various sectors.
Mongolia ratified the UN
Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in 2009, committing to
guarantee equal rights for persons with disabilities, including access to
education, development, employment, public services, and equitable benefits
from development. The country submitted its initial report to the UN Committee
in 2015, followed by its second and third periodic reports in 2023. Based on
these reports, the government received a total of 37 recommendations, 3
requirements, and 1 request after the first report, and 35 additional
recommendations following the second and third reports.
The training session
focused on the social model of disability, the content of the UN Convention on
the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, sector-specific recommendations from
the UN Committee, and promoting a human rights-based approach in policymaking
and implementation related to disability issues.
Shabaz Khan, Director of
the UNESCO Office for East Asia, delivered a greeting message during the
session, commending Mongolia’s efforts to align its
domestic legislation with the Convention and to effectively implement its
provisions.
The Ministry of Family,
Labour and Social Protection is currently developing a draft action plan to
address the UN Committee’s recommendations, which is
expected to be approved as a government resolution in the near future.
