Expansion of the "UNITEL HUB" Center to Continue Nationwide
The Ministry of Family, Labour, and Social Protection, in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and Unitel Group, has been working to enhance the technical skills of children, adolescents, and youth, encouraging responsible use of the internet, computers, and smart devices. The initiative also aims to provide opportunities for learning and development, as well as constructive use of free time.
The "Unitel Hub" centers were first piloted in Darkhan-Uul province in 2022, and further expanded to other provinces in 2023-2024. Plans are underway to establish additional hubs in the remote districts of Ulaanbaatar by 2025.
At the "Unitel Hub" centers, youth can participate in various programs, including basic electronics training, Elektrokid micro-programming on Arduino boards, robot assembly, and coding. The centers also provide access to desktop computers, smart tablets, high-speed internet, IPTV for watching movies, and development services such as book reading and listening.
As part of the expansion efforts, the Ministry, UNFPA, and Unitel Group held a meeting today and agreed on the following key initiatives:
- Update and Sign Agreements: The existing Memorandum of Understanding will be updated, and a new Cooperation Agreement regarding the "Unitel Hub" center will be signed.
- Increase Training Access: Efforts will be made to expand the training content available at the Unitel Hub. E-education modules will be developed, targeting children, adolescents, the elderly, mothers, and women caring for children. Family education and life skills training programs will also be made available as e-content.
- Training Teachers: In September 2024, regular training will be organized for teachers of the "Unitel Hub" centers, with two specialists from each province participating.
- "7 Space Days" Event: In October, the "7 Space Days" event will be held simultaneously across the country. The opening ceremony will be a large-scale public event aimed at sparking interest in science and space studies among children, adolescents, youth, and the broader public.
- Specialist Role Update: The job description of the specialist responsible for child development at the Department of Children and Family Development and Protection in each province will be updated to include oversight of the daily operations of the "Unitel Hub" centers.
