ILO and Mongolia to Launch New Initiative for Workplace Improvements

The International Labor Organization (ILO) has a long history of effective collaboration with Mongolia, with the country having ratified 9 of the 10 fundamental ILO conventions. As part of this ongoing partnership, L. Enkh-Amgalan, Minister for Labour and Social Protection of Mongolia, recently met with Mr. Changhee LEE, Director of the ILO Country Office for China and Mongolia, during his official visit.

During the meeting, Minister L. Enkh-Amgalan presented the programs and policies of the new government, which include plans to reform the social welfare system and employment support activities. The Minister highlighted the government's intention to adopt a conditional welfare policy and to review and coordinate projects implemented with donor organizations in line with the new government agenda.

The Minister also addressed the challenges related to the implementation of the Decent Work Country program for Mongolia (2023-2027), which was signed with the ILO, expressing confidence that these challenges would be resolved through joint efforts.

Mr. Changhee Lee shared that the ILO, which has previously focused on policy-level cooperation and improving the legal environment in Mongolia, is now prepared to launch a new program targeting enterprises, with support from the Korean government. This initiative aims to improve workplace environments, enhance community atmosphere, and strengthen management-employee relations. Special attention will be given to encouraging young people to engage in sustainable employment, which could increase productivity and motivate Mongolians working abroad to return home.

He also praised the alignment of Mongolia’s new government policies with the Sustainable Development Goals and affirmed the ILO’s commitment to actively supporting the implementation of ongoing tasks, including decent work promotion, legal environment improvements, and human resource empowerment.
