Parliament Approves Amendments to the Law on the Elderly

The Parliament has discussed and approved the Law on Amendments to the Law on the Elderly. The draft law, prepared by 14 members of the State Great Khural of Mongolia, led by Parliament Member Mr. N. Enkhbold, was approved by the General Assembly of the State on May 22, 2024.

  • The Law on Amendments to the Law on the Elderly includes several significant provisions aimed at improving the lives of elderly citizens:
  • Healthy and Active Aging: Preparation for healthy and active aging, along with the improvement of comprehensive long-term care services for the elderly.
  • Employment Promotion: Initiatives to promote the employment of the elderly.
  • Economic Protection: Measures to reduce economic violence against the elderly.
  • Funding for Services: Increase and clarification of funding for services and employment support for the development and participation of the elderly.
  • Elderly Care Services: Creation and development of a variety of elderly care services.
  • Discounted Sanatorium Services: Increase in the number and scope of sanatoriums providing services to the elderly at discounted prices.
  • Prosthetics and Orthopedics: Increase in the frequency of prosthetics and orthopedics for the elderly from once every 5 years to once every 3 years.
  • Senior Citizens' Funds: Regulations to support the operation of senior citizens' funds by enterprises and clarification of the fund's budget and financing.

In addition to the primary amendments, about 10 related amendments were also approved by the State Great Khural of Mongolia. These amendments support the overall framework of the Law on Amendments to the Law on the Elderly.

The amended law will be enforced starting January 1, 2025.
