The inauguration of the project to develop the capacity of the Independent Living Center in Mongolia marks a significant milestone.

Funded by the Japanese government's "Grass Roots" program, the "Project to support the independent living of disabled people in Ulaanbaatar" will be carried out with the assistance of the Universal Development Center.

The project aims to delineate the rights of disabled individuals to live independently, establish the functions and structure of implementing organizations, and raise public awareness about the importance of these services. 

Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Protection of Mongolia, Mr. S. Zulpkhar, participated in the project's opening ceremony on 12th August 2023.  Mr. S. Zulpkhar, highlighted the recommendations of the Convention presented to Mongolia by the United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. These recommendations specifically emphasize increasing the availability of community-based services to support independent living and enhancing the training, support, and services provided by personal assistants. He expressed confidence that this project will effectively address the aforementioned challenges and represent a significant advancement in Mongolia's social protection system. The project will encompass the following activities: 

  1. Strengthening and enhancing the management system of the Independent Living Center.
  2. Improving the system of personal support services.
  3. Enhancing the customer service system.
  4. Coordinating other human rights activities through the Center for Independent Living.

This initiative is dignified to make a meaningful impact on the lives of disabled individuals in Mongolia, fostering greater independence and inclusivity within society.
