“Employed Household- Happy Family” Open day vent held in Ulaanbaatar

On May 15, the world celebrates the International Day of Family, now marking its 31st year. In recognition of this day, an open day event under the theme “Employed Household-Happy Family” was held at Sukhbaatar Square in Ulaanbaatar.

The event was jointly organized by key agencies under the Ministry of Family Labour and Social protection, including the General Agency of Child and Family Development, the General Department of Labour and Welfare Services, the General Authority for Social Insurance, and the Genreral Authority for the Development of Persons with Disabilities.

In 2024, the Government of Mongolia recognized population development based on the family unit as of its top priorities and restructures the ministry as the Ministry of Family and Social Protection. Emphasis has been placed on supporting the basic unit of society-the-family-and particulartly addressing the development needs of children and families in a comprehensive manner.

The Ministry of Family and Social Protection is currently drafting Mongolia’s first ever law on family development aimed at supporting family well-being and promoting balanced work-life conditions. Once adopted, the law will serve to establish a more family-friendly environment, outline support mechanisms for children and parents, and implement systems for family development support.

During the “Employed Household-happy Family” event, a variety of government services were offered to the public, including:

·        - Services to support children and families

·         -A job fair organized through the Job Center

·         -On-site and online access to social insurance services

·         -Employment support services for persons with disabilities

·         -Loans supporting household-based production

·         -An exhibition and sale of products by small and medium-sized enterprises

Additionally, representatives from households participating in the “Graduation Approach Pilot Program”-implemented by the Ministry with support from the Asian Development Bank- showcased their products at the event. This initiative is part of the “COVID-19 Pandemic Response Social Protection Project II”, which has reached 125 vulnerable households in Songinokhairkhan, Bayanzurkh, and Chingeltei districts.
