Senior Citizens: The Most Valuable Social Capital
In preparation
for the International Day of Older Persons, Mr. L. Enkh-Amgalan, Member of Parliament and Minister for Family,
Labour and Social Protection of Mongolia met with representatives of the
elderly community. Currently, senior citizens make up 10.9% of Mongolia’s
population, a figure projected to reach 17% by 2040.
The
Government’s 2024–2028 Action Program includes:
• Developing
alternative elderly care services with the participation of private and
non-governmental sectors.
• Adjusting
pensions annually based on inflation and the cost of living.
• Promoting
senior employment through skill development and income opportunities.
• Supporting
active aging by providing services through Family Development Centers.
• Requiring
organizations with over 50 employees to allocate at least 2% of positions to
seniors.
The
Minister emphasized the critical role of seniors in society, urging them to
share their experiences with younger generations and remain active contributors
to social development.
