Mongolia and Australia to Strengthen Cooperation in Family, Labour, and Social Protection Sectors
On August 13, 2024, Minister of Family, Labour, and Social Protection, L. Enkh-Amgalan, met with Katie Smith, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Australia to Mongolia, to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation.
During the meeting, Minister Enkh-Amgalan shared an overview of the policy program of the new Mongolian Government. He expressed appreciation for Australia’s support, particularly in implementing the "Development and Leadership of Mongolian Women in Executive Positions" program, which aims to empower female civil servants. The Minister also thanked the Australian Government for its commitment to the effective implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Mongolia and Australia regarding the regulation of work and holiday visas.
Minister Enkh-Amgalan highlighted that the new government’s policy prioritizes establishing a family-based social service system, which is included in its action plan. He expressed interest in collaborating with Australia by exchanging experiences and learning from Australia's successful practices in family support and employment support services.
Ambassador Katie Smith reaffirmed Australia’s commitment to the effective implementation of the MoU on work and holiday visas. She also emphasized opportunities for further cooperation, including promoting gender equality, studying Australia's trainee system, and inviting experts to work in Mongolia through the volunteer program.
The meeting concluded with both parties expressing their readiness to actively enhance cooperation in the fields of family, labor, and social protection.
